RNS510 screen lockup whilst driving

Post by ChrisL »

Whilst quietly listening to an MP3 on my RNS510 last night, the track suddenly stopped halfway through and the screen displayed another track but didn’t play it. It was the SD car being accessed at the time. Thereafter the touch-screen display locked-up and was not responsive and did not change even if the accompanying buttons were pressed. Worse still, it would not power down from the push power button nor when I pulled over and removed key. So the display stayed lit up even with the car locked from the outside.

Carrying on the journey, I discovered I could still change music tracks and the Sat Nav via the highline display and steering wheel but the touch-screen remained locked on the particular media track screen. Also I realised the RNS power button was functioning to some extent such as causing the music and Sat Nav to stop.

Concerned that the battery would be run down, I never-the-less left it overnight with the screen still lit. With visions of having to visit a far away dealer the next day, I was most relieved that the screen was blank upon start-up with the key and the RNS rebooted fine. I shall have to wait till this fault repeats before the attending the dealer but would be interested if others have had a similar experience.
