Confused about installed phone system
Hi there
Ive been doing alot of research lately as Ive finally decided to use the inbuilt phone system (bought my Roc in 09).
Apparently my Roc came with premium bluetooth which from what Ive learned is rsap and not compatible with my desire hd.
However I do have a sort of attachment that looks like a Bury base but through all the reading on this forum I havent come across anyone asking for a specific cradle for the phone to go with said base.
Here is a picture of what I have and also a pic of the unit that is situated underneath the passenger seat.
Im hoping someone could clear up exactly what I have so that I can either buy a Bury cradle that will hopefully work or replace the "box" under the seat with the skoda unit or new vw bluetooth version.
cheers

Re: Confused about installed phone system
hmmmm. Very odd part number...
Checked this list but no match http://www.my-gti.com/1080" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Yours could be newer, but that does not match Your story.
And the craddle just does not make sense.
I would give up and actually ask a dealer. They should be able to look up what was in the car when it left the factory.

Re: Confused about installed phone system
Ive googled the part number and found a few north american postings about it so Im continuing to try to get to the bottom of this.
Are you saying then that the cradle and the module arent supposed to go together?
thanks

As far as I recall, a Bury cradle was part of the wired phone setup before everything went bluetooth.
Have also heard of some sh:tty non-vw bluetooth retrofit made by vw dealers, which included some kind of cradle.

Re: Confused about installed phone system
The cradle looks like a Bury mounting base, you still need to buy a a cradle that slots into it.
We use them in our company vehicles so that you only have to swap over cradles if phones are changed instead a full de & re-install, in my astra I have a base for for my work Nokia 3109 which works of bluetooth. Have used the wifes Samsung's and my own HTC via the bluetooth cradle with no issues, only downside is that it doesn't charge.

Re: Confused about installed phone system
Ive looked on the Bury website and apparently their take and talk cradles arent compatible with VW factory installed systems. Do you have a VW system with a Bury cradle or just a full Bury system? I could go the VW bluetooth touch screen option to go with the base but it defeats the purpose that I want to use my Desire HTC phone as a sat nav as well so I need something to charge it as well.Summi wrote:The cradle looks like a Bury mounting base, you still need to buy a a cradle that slots into it.

Re: Confused about installed phone system
The system illustration is on ekta so your cradle support is definitely a vw part.

If so then how about this.
If you look at the vehicle data sticker in the boot amongst the cluster of codes in block 7 do you see "9W8".

Well Ive just checked and tried to upload a pic of the sticker but its not working.b0rk wrote:The system illustration is on ekta so your cradle support is definitely a vw part.If you look at the vehicle data sticker in the boot amongst the cluster of codes in block 7 do you see "9W8".

Anyhow, I cant see in block 7 or anywhere on the sticker for that matter 9w8. I do however see under Type which is near the top in larger size than the rest: 137 9w2.
I think this means Im pretty much screwed and have a 9w2 premium bluetooth kit which isnt compatible with the touch adapter that you posted a link to.
Im guessing I have to replace the whole unit then ie the box under the passenger seat as suggested in roccopedia.
As Id like to still use the phone mount, I suppose I would need to find a 9w8 box and use either the touch adapter or pairing adapter?

Re: Confused about installed phone system
9w8 is an option code not a component. However the 9w2 code should get you a Bluetooth box without a cradle. You really need to visit a dealer so they can look your car up and see exactly what was/is fitted.
9w2 = 1k8 035 730 B upto June 09, 1k8 035 730 C upto January 2010, 1K8 035 730 D (current)
9w8 = uses the same control unit 1K8 305 730 B/C/D but has a cradle.
Can you read the part number off the cradle?

Re: Confused about installed phone system
Ok I finally managed to upload the picture of the sticker in the boot. Hope this helps. Like you say I may have to bite the bullet and take it in to the dealership but thats a last resort.
Its weird though because like you said the 9w8 comes with a cradle and thats what I have but the sticker says differently. From what I can remember I couldnt see any part number on the cradle. I can check in the morning though.
cheers for all the help thus far! hopefully we'll get to the bottom of this

My Roc was build late 2008 or early 2009 and have:
9w3 = 5n0 035 730 A ("Premium Bluetooth" rSAP only)

Re: Confused about installed phone system
Well I can't seem to find any part numbers around the cradle. I'm taking the car in tomorrow to see what the dealer says though. I've also asked on a couple of 1k8 units selling on German eBay to see if they are compatible 9w8 boxes.
