Coming/Leaving Home Lights, Reversing Mirror Not Working

Post by caprinolaw »

(Before i start this i have tried the search Trix ;) )

My Roc is in the garage today as I have asked them to investigate why my Coming Home Lights, Leaving Home Lights and Reversing Mirror don't work (or work very sporadically).

Their service manager has explained to me that the diagnostic tool they use runs 20 minute cycles to try and pin-point the errors and having run it 3 times they have not been able to source to real problem and that their is a problem with the control unit that runs a lot deeper.

They have said they require the vehicle for a couple of days to strip it right back to try and solve the issue.

This hasn't yet been booked in (I will do this later tonight when I go back).

I just wondered whether I am being completely stupid here and whether someone can help:

Does the Reversing Mirror even work? (I recall a thread where it was mentioned that it doesn't work at all on any scirocco's at the moment)

How do the coming / leaving home lights actually work? (they are both activated on the MFD) NB: I have Xenons.

For leaving home i assume once i unlock the car the lights should come on.
For coming home i assume once i remove the key and lock the car they should stay on.

Have i missed a trick here? do they only work if the light switch is only in the 'Auto' position or something?

UPDATE: Ignore the mirror bit ill test it with what I found on the Roccopedia later tonight - think ive been doing it wrong
Jay.

Jay, i have only ever got my lights to work when the switch is in the Auto position. The reverse mirror only works on auto folding mirrors and the notch cannot be on the heating option. You need to have it on L R or * (middle). To set it put the car in reverse and adjust to your liking, the car will then remember this with the key (note if using 2 keys, each will its own mirror settings, so you need to do both)

Cheers junior that's much appreciated - think its more of a case of RTFM for me on this!

That said you would have expected the garage to try it all as per the manual before saying there is an issue.

Ill book it in tonight, try everything as per your instructions and if its all OK cancel the booking.

luckily its not a wasted day as the car was in to have a smashed repeater replaced anyway.

Mirror down with reverse selected only works in the "passenger" position of the mirror selection. Applies RHD (left) or LHD (right).

Mirror down - have you got electric folding mirrors? if no then iirc no you don't have it
Coming home lights - rtfm ;) you need to flash your lights before exiting the car

My coming home lights aren't automatically switched on either like my GTI

Will try the flashing headlight before exiting trick.

Amazing! My coming home lights work now. Gotta pull the flasher after ignition off and on door opening lights will come on. Switches off per the delay set in the MFD.

Leaving home lights work as normal but need lights on Auto so it uses the Dusk sensor to switch it on.

You should be able to use VAGCOM to make the coming home lights stay on automatically which is how the Leon and Passat worked.

On my car, which is a MY2010 pre-week 45 model it was:

09 Central Electrics module, using long coding helper
- Byte 12 - untick bit 2
- Byte 17 - tick bit 5

May be slightly different on the post-week 45 cars.

Haha. Can u check if that VAGCOM trick works Shaun ?? Cos I'd rather have it like the Golf was. Stupid design using the flasher to activate it.
