Alright first off, I'm in California, and even though a high performance version of the Scirocco may be getting a limited release here there's always that chance it won't. So I may be trying to import one, here are the questions.
What's the cost to import one from the UK to me (California)?
Does it meet all of the US safety and emissions standards?
Will all of the technology in the car work correctly here? (gps, bluetooth, any type of radio, etc....)?
OR anything else I may need to know about the car before importing over here?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Questions about importing a Scirocco
I would have thought your best bet would be to order on the continent as you'd want left hand drive etc don’t see why the Bluetooth wouldn’t work as long as you have the correct model of mobile, GPS I'm guessing would be fine as long you had the correct maps loaded onto the system, and I'm sure VW in the US would have a CD you could upload from, but I think you'd be paying through the teeth for a scirocco to be shipped over as for it passing the strict US safety checks I wouldn’t know

Car is now Sold!!!!! BMW 7 Series for now as nice and big but holding out for something a little special as my toy

Indeed, my first thought too.CTRnutter wrote:I would have thought your best bet would be to order on the continent as you'd want left hand drive
Your best bet if you did want to do this, would be to import it from Germany.

Man with the current exchange rate you could be quids in! I just did a transaction with a US supplier and got an 8 year low on the £ vs $
My buddy just imported a big ole beast of a US car, just put it in a container so check with local shipping companies.
Like those guys said, get one on mainland Europe as it will be left hand drive.

Travisleet - if you order a left pegger in mainland Europe I will drive it over for you - granted it will be the long way round and it will have done about 20k miles by then and have a few bits of dust on it but if you are up for it so am I as I couldn't think of a better car to drive for that distance.
Alternatively if you don't think this is sensible I am aware that you have to be very careful at customs if you have financed the vehicle as it can be impounded at the dock if the finance company has not cleared it for shipment.

ah yes very good point, America is "supposedly" getting some sort of limited high performance version of the scirocco, hopefully it does get here but I guess only time will tell, and hopefully waiting for it won't end up screwing me over.andy wrote:travisleet, i have seen on another forum, maybe vwvortex that vw have a number of sciroccos running around at there hq in the states, also assuming the shared dna with the golf may mean vag com can be used to activate some specific us functions

Alright well since all of that seems to be OK, now the issue of getting one over here, guess the best bet is to contact my nearest VW dealer for more info?
