Test Drive Saturday :)

I have booked a test drive Saturday with a view to putting a deposit down if the figures add up

Unfortunaly though the garage only have petrol models available so have suggested that I drive the Scirocco in the petrol and then take a new Diesel Golf out to see how the engine is. Not Ideal but better than nothing I suppose.

We covered my spec on the phone and they stated that they cannot supply with Xenons as there is a problem with them. Does anyone know what the problem is?

Finally I told them my expectations on what I want them to do price wise. I never gave a figure but stated I have seen some very competitive broker based deals supplied from UK VW dealerships. They told me they have failed to match these in the past and as the Scirocco is in demand they don't see great reductions but they will see what they can do. I will see what they say on this on Saturday. Reallistically if they get fairly close to the broker price I would probably be happy. Saves me a trip down south!!!

Hi Ginge,

ignore what they tell you about the 'roc being in demand, VW have knocked the price down by up to 10% so they're just giving you dealer spiel. I know that there have been xenon delays but vehicles with xenons have been delivered (ryancooke for one). Have you considered looking at VW stock? I got mine from the VW 'used' website although it had zero miles and had not been registered, probably worth a look unless you really need an unusual spec.

As far as two test drives go, i think that's actually a good idea as you'll experience the 'roc (driving position, poor rear visibility, plenty of interest from pedestrians and other motorists) but you'll also get a good feeling for the super-torquey TDi.

Hope you enjoy, you won't regret getting one, still smiling after nearly 3 months!!!

If you look through the forum you will find plenty of discussion regarding Xenon problem/delays (although I thought this was fixed by now...?) and potential discounts.

I asked the dealer today about the xenons and they had no idea when they would be available. They said it was a manufacturing delay for the lights.

I have had a look at the VW stock and there is not much in the way of Diesel on there. Only one GT available too and in the wrong colour with very few of the extras I want. I have asked to be sent alerts though as cars pop up.

Hopefully the dealer does well on the price. I am looking for 10% anyway.

Dealer has been on the phone today, twice! Both times they have told me they will be able to do a deal and get very close to or match the brokers. This is good news

Do you think 10% off is too little? Never bought a new car before but 10% sounds ok to me? Anyone done any better??

Go in there with a print out of the broadspeed figures and see what they come up with. I think I saw a thread on here where someone had picked up a roc from Cardiff via Broadspeed so may be worth a phone call to check what they can do then use this as a barter tool with your local dealer. If they have called you twice and said they can match broker prices then to me it seems like a deal is there to be had but you are in the driving seat. Just keep cool and play hard ball, you are a scotsman after all so not too willing to part with your cash

I sourced my motor through Broadspeed / Cardiff VW, once the broker fee was paid to Broadspeed i dealt purely with VW Cardiff. The service from them was great, kept in regular contact with me via email / phone with regular updates. They were also aware of all delays with Sat Nav / Xenon and later the Panoramic roof issue. When i collected mine last week Debbie at Cardiff said that they had used all of there allocation for Sciroccos so they had to stop taking orders so if you go through Broadspeed now you may deal with another dealer unless they have managed to get some more allocation. As sir_rocco said, spec the car on Broadspeed or a similar broker website and print out the details and go armed with this to your local dealer. I think they are more likely to haggle these days. My only gripe was that they couldn't supply GB / EU plates, just the plain ones although this is a minor niggle.

I did this obviously some months ago now, my dealer at the time flatly refused to negotiate at all and gladly handed me back by deposit. He tried every trick in the book to try persuade me that using a broker was a bad idea. So when it arrived and everything was spot on i had to pop along to my local dealer and rub it in just a little. To be fair to him he was sound but they wouldn't budge on the price and eight weeks in to my order hadn't given me a build date which we later found out was due to the Xenons.

Good luck, one thing is for sure it was worth the wait!

Well I enjoyed my test drive immensely !

I drove a white TSI with black alloys. It certainly was nice to drive, good driving position and very sure footed on the road. The pickup from the 2.0 TSI was excellent. I was very tempted to get the petrol but the average fuel consumption of 23.1mpg on the clock put me off. I realise the actual figures would be better but with that much power I don't think I would be able to keep to licence keeping speeds !! My girlfriend in contrast hated the car. She sat in the back, complained the ride was harsh and that there was not much room. I reminded her that when she has £20K plus to spend on car she can choose it. She wants me to get a SAAB instead!!! I have been given 'permission' by her to purchase the car on the proviso that if we choose to have a second car she gets to pick it. Seems like a reasonable compromise to me.

I then moved to the new 2.0 TDi golf. This was very bland in comparison the the Scirocco. The engine was reasonably powerful but certainly not as exciting at the petrol. The golf interior was a bit cramped in the drivers seat I found and the seat adjustment was poor. Still it was just to see the engine and with a consumption in the high 40's that was good for me.

The dealer advised a 3 month delivery time and could not detail when they expected the Xenons to be available. I really want the xenons and am very tempted to wait until they are available. I had phoned the dealer earlier in the week and laid out my expectations price wise and walked in to a whopping £2000 off the list price. They advised they really wanted the business and that was the absolute best they could do. This is a discount of 8% which is not bad. Best I could find from a broker was £22700 with a fee of £300 I think it was so the dealer has done well in my opinion.

I did not order the car as I wanted to sleep on the decision but once I have let them stew for a few days I will probably go back and order. That is unless anyone has any good rumours of when the xenons are coming back????

Final thing was the offered me £1200 for my 406 coupe. This was quite disappointing as I would have liked at least £2000. I will sell this privately I think.
