Fog light cover metal clip query

Post by wheels2010 »

In removing the fog light cover I discovered there is a small clip on the internal assembly that pops off when you pull the plastic cover out. Try as I might I can't get the thing back. It seems to serve no purpose but I love my roc and don't like to think I've done anything wrong. None of the guides on replacing the fog light (I was fixing a cracked indicator cover) mention this little clip.

What's the clip for, does it need to go back, if so how???

Hi Wheels, :welcome:

When I've taken off my fog lamp panels, I don't remember any metal clips attached. There are speed nuts for the indicator attachment screws either side and on tow hook cover, but they attach to the bumper skin. Have you got a photo??

here are the clips- they pop out when you pull the foglight cover. I noticed one when I heard it drop inside- so I took the other off very slowly. Doesn't seem to be anyway to avoid them popping off. They are attached to the bumper skin on the inside where the horizontal plastic tab of the foglight cover goes through.

Yup - speed nuts. There are three to my knowledge in behind the fog panels & indicators. One to attach the tow hook cover (green) and one each side to attach the LH & RH indicator units (red). All three speed nuts don't come off as part of the removal of the fog panels.

Photos with front left and right fog panels removed showing postions of the three speed nuts on the bumper skin.
My Scirocco has no others.

Clips attach by sliding the parallel slot over the plastic bumper skin, ie. where the white mark is in the photo below. The flat face on the right side of the photo faces outwards into which the fixing screw enters.

On the bumper it fits typically like this....

Not clear where you are refering to "They are attached to the bumper skin on the inside where the horizontal plastic tab of the foglight cover goes through." The covers on there own slot and clip into the bumper skin, so need for extra items like a speed nut.

Ah that's where it's from!

When I took mine off to fix the broken lamp that clip pinged off for me too and I couldn't see where it had come from so I left it off.
It doesn't seem to have affected the slats fitting back on though and the front hasn't fallen off so I figure it's ok to leave it.

I have circled with a red oval to the right of the picture where the nut was- behind the bumper skin

Maybe they were deleted in production by Oct'09 or purely forgot on mine.
