RCD510 - Ugly display

Post by 6rocco »

Just received my car and find the display of the RCD510 really ugly. Big buttons, cheap fonts, loosy colors. And - especially if you're used to the iPod/iPhone stuff - the navigation really sucks. Is there a way to change that? A firmware with other graphic design?

Not that I'm aware of. Though I've never had an issue with the interface.

It'd be great if there was. I do agree it is very cheap looking..

I think you'll find that the big buttons, clear fonts and colours are all chosen to make viewing and operating the 510 quick and easy and less of a distraction when driving. Nothing worse than a head unit with a myriad of tiny buttons with even smaller labels along with a small, cramped text display on the screen; especially when its sited low down and requires several long looks down to operate it.

Navigation thru folders, albums etc, I agree is not intuitive and could be a lot better.
But if you want to change all of that then you need a new head unit.

Get a RNS510 - it has double the resolution so will look better. RCD510 isnt that bad though IMO.

there are 3 colour scheme's available on the RNS510 not sure if that applies to the RCD510 too. They can only be changed with VAGcom, mine is on Sportline (more Red) which I thought was the nicest of them, some people however prefer Highline (more black)
