Flashing Fuel Light

Post by biggles »

Hi All,

Just wondered if it is normal for the yellow fuel symbol to constantly flash rather than just illuminate when the tank is getting low? I haven't noticed it before as i usually fill up early but find it quite irritating when i still have over 85 miles range. Most cars just illuminate (and chime) but only flash when running on final reserve.

Cheers

am i missing something? I dont have a fuel light as such, when it gets low, around 60 miles or so, the MFD top bar changes to yellow fuel symbol and this flashes back to the MFD display and so on every 5 seconds or something. does yours have a fuel light on the fuel guage?

That's what he's referring to, mine comes on around 40 Miles, it was exactly the same in my Golf, I think it depends on what speed your doing when it works out your fuel is low. Mine doesn't flash but appears more often when I get to 30..20..10 miles etc It will appear more often on the screen when you stop i.e. at a junction etc as it will try and get attention at that point.

Have you noticed it also adds another screen to the MFD...

Screen 1 is usually your speedometer/miles readings, Screen 2 is your Music, and Screen 3 is the Settings that you can only access when the vehicle is at a halt... then back to screen 1.

However when the fuel warning is on, a 4th Screen is added to the menu which says something along the lines of Please refuel, I thought that was quite clever as its breaks the norm and grabs your attention, however with that said how many times do you flick through the MFD screens whilst driving?

Yep that is what i was referring to! Just find it a bit annoying by flashing on every few secs, once it has "pinged" and lit up i know i need some motion lotion, don't need a distracting reminder!

the warning is triggered when the fuel level drops to 7 litres remaining, the range left is determined by what the current average MPG is so if you've been pootling along at 70 on the motorway (like we all do officer) then your average MPG would be high 30's thus giving you an estimated range of about 60 miles, if you were in town though and doing stop starts then obviously your MPG will be much lower and your predicted range lower to boot.

I also find it annoying but sometimes I get to work on fumes and without the reminder could easily jump in at the end of the day, get on the motorway which is right by my office and not have enough gas to get to the next services/garage. I tend to run full to empty all the time as I do shed loads of miles and do not want to be constantly in the filling station.
