Oil Pressure Sensor

Post by MKAndy »

My Roc' just recently flashed up an error message 'Oil Sensor Workshop'. Not the most descriptive issue I've ever seen, I checked the oil level which appears to not register anything at all which is rather worrying after 6k. My previous car (another VAG) would at least warn me when it got low.

Is it likely to just be the Roc's way of saying it's run out of oil, or is it likely the sensor is knackered?

I assume there are no oil leaks from under the Scirocco.

No oil on dipstick, needs a top up short term but do keep a close eye on it. Cos......

I wonder if the turbo is sucking oil a little through its seals. VW Diesels are known to do it. If so, be aware the seals can leak more quickly fairly rapidly and the turbo then sucks the sump oil up into the engine with alarming results ie. the engine oil acts as fuel & very high rpm with no control to stop it results (until the sump oil runs out).

Suggest you see the dealer soon.

Yup, no leaks.

It's not clear what oil sensor has failed, most likely pressure I guess. I've topped it up for now, but I'll book it in and see what's what. Might as well get some other niggles sorted at the same time.

Update...

Apparently 'Oil Sensor Workshop' means 'Oil low'. Why it doesn't just say this is beyond me, apparently the warning message 'get's stuck sometimes'.

Interesting!
