Retro Fitting Options - What available?

Post by ayc1985 »

Hi all, just to say I've had my 'Rocco for about 4 days now and I'm loving it completely, everyone notices this car, even beamer and audi owners, brilliant!

I bought it ex-demo and there are a few options I missed out on because I would have had to wait until march to get it!

I have the RCD 510 and MDI interface and would like to know what other options I can retrofit? Also should I have an MDI - Ipod connector as I was noly given an MDI - USB one?

- RNS 510 (This is possible and I will do it)
- Folding Mirrors
- Flat tyre Indicator

What other options could I add on if I wanted to? and who would you recommend to do it?

Thanks in advance!

Here is a pic of my baby too!!

YES YOU SHOULD HAVE THE IPOD CABLE, GO HAVE A MOAN AT THE DEALER!! they will have to locate it from the parts department i believe.

is the list above (folding mirrors, rns510, flat tyre indicator) the options you have or you want?? if those are what you want folding mirrors can not be done without create expense (mirrors with motors, wiring etc) but cruise control can be done at a reasonable price..

also have a look at these threads
flat tyre indicator http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... t=retrofit
options for retrofitting or not http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... t=retrofit

Thanks Trix, I'm going to moan at the dealer today anyway, he owes me a set of mats and a spare key!!!

folding mirrors will be really expensive I presume, but I would like the flat tyre indicator and I'm in the process of getting an RNS 510. Theres an electronics shop in Leicester who will give me an RNS 510 and the Bluetooth module for £1300 and give me £300 for my RCD 510, thus leaving £1000 in total (with a 12 month warranty). Is that too expensive?

Bit of research...

RNS510 sells (2nd hand) for £450 on ebay...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-RNS-510-MFD3-D ... 286.c0.m14

RNS510 sells new for £950 on ebay...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GOLF-RNS-510-S ... 286.c0.m14

Fiscon Bluetooth sells for £300 inc fitting if you go to the group buy and Fitting day on 17th Oct
http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... =20#p26235

I'd estimate the RCD510 would fetch about £200-300 off ebay...

So unless you're going to buy a 2nd hand unit, I think you've got a pretty good deal there...

Thanks for your reply jc, basically the link for the new one you posted is the one, I rang them up, the deal is they get their units from written off cars under a month old, obviously checked to see if they still work.

I work in Milton Keynes so the Fiscon free fitting day is only about 10 mins away. They charge £1400 for the sat nav though, little bit more.

I was also thinking of getting the tv tuner, will that work with the sat nav? and do you reckon its worth having?

The Satnav + bluetooth bundle for £1k is looking tempting compared to other prices i've seen.

Not sure which Bluetooth they give you, but the Fiscon is compatible with many more phones than the factory 'premium bluetooth' (it doesn't work with normal bluetooth - the phone needs to support Remote SIM Access Protocol which most don't).
You may want to consider getting the RNS510 for £950/£1000, take £300 part-ex for your RCD510. That'll cost you £650/£700.
Then get the better Fiscon fitted for £300. Total £950/£1000 but you'll have a better Bluetooth module. Search through this forum and you'll see more...

Tv Tuner - not sure, depends how much it costs, personally I don't use the car much and certainly don't need to watch tv much whilst driving, so not for me! I have burned movies onto DVD-RW and watched them though (you have to use nero to convert Divx to DVD format).

Check out the RNS510 forums which may answer your questions better about TV tuners and other stuff...

Ah good info thanks, I rang them up and they said its the OEM Bluetooth kit, which I assume is the Volkswagen factory one. I have a Samsung Jet which supports RSIM which is supported according to my research. Is the Fiscon that much better? You can still read texts etc through the RNS right?

I've read the Fiscon is much better. But not owning either, I cannot say for sure. You can pop to the group buy/sell forum and just ask the question on the end of the thread. One of the guys there is selling them and seems to know his stuff...

 Please be aware that there are two OEM "Bluetooth" kits:

Bluetooth standard, which is actually a bluetooth kit for the radio
"Bluetooth" premium, which is a GSM phone in the car, that uses bluetooth to turn of Your rSIM phone and take its identity.
