slight gearbox crunch from 1st-2nd & 2nd-3rd

Post by pat15312 »

Does anybody sometimes get a slight crunch when (vigorously) changing from 1st-2nd or 2nd-3rd gear?
I imagine its something to do with te synchros not lining up? No a mechanic so i'm just hazarding a guess...
Is there anything i can do to stop this happening (other than obviously being more gentle when changing gear).
Don't get me wrong, i'm not trying to snap the shifter whe changing gear, just taking it all the way to redline and changing quickly.
Also i'm not getting this all the time, just every so often.

Pat - why did you get a 1.4TSI when you're going to treat it that mean? From your list of options it seems that price wasn't a factor when you decided not to get a 2.0TSI :?

Looks like you'll be testing the engineering reliability to it's limits - just make sure you change cars before your warranty runs out.

insurance was the reason i didn't get a 2.0 and the 250nm torque limit was the reason i didn't get the 7 speed DSG.
mate its a vw, the engineering is built to last! besides, all manual sciroccos, regardless of engine, have the same gearbox (feel free to correct me if i'm wrong anybody!) so there no reason why i should treat the 1.4 with kids gloves compared to the petrol 2.0 or indeed the diesel 2.0

VWs aren't as bomb-proof as they used to be - my last Golf had £6000 worth of warranty work, including a new cylinder head. They still feel more solid than your average non-german car but they're nowhere near as reliable as they used to be (neither are BMWs or Mercs)- maybe that's why they dropped their "if only everything in life was as reliable as a Volkswagen" motto.

Hope yours holds out as long as you own it!

we'll see how she reacts to a new twin induction kit and "twintercooler" in september a la forge motorsport.
then onto the turbo back milltek exhaust and stage 2 revo remap before the end of the year :)
lets see what the little 1.4 can really do... or not do and blow up...

Does your insurance company know about all this stuff you're doing? You said you got a 1.4 instead of a 2.0 because of the insurance, but i'd guess that the insurance company would be more understanding of a 2.0TSI with no or few performance upgrades rather than a maxxed out 1.4 (not to mention the warranty implications if something goes wrong under the bonnet). Just being a sensible Diesel driver....

come on maisbitt, i'm not a complete idiot... just partially.
but even i'm not stupid enough to risk writing a heavily modified car off and being left with a rather expensive pile of metal and prbably a court summons (for driving without insurance).
anyways, you'd be wrong in this instance. check out my list of approved mods http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... =12&t=2148" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
diesel drivers are far to sensible (boring)... besides haven't you got some pennies to go count?
jokies by the way, i'm a nice guy really :D
