Lights not working in sync with switches

Post by DebsDub »

Hi all new to the forum

Recently bought GT Tdi 170 on a 2010 plate and noticed when I got it home that the head lights are acting strange. In the off position my main headlights are on, in the side light position they don’t work, and in auto they are always on ?

It looks like the interior lights are all upgraded to brighter white except for one blue one above the rear view mirror.

Could it be a simple wiring issue? Headlights been replaced at some point? And how has it passed an MOT without the sidelights working? Or is it just based on main lights?

Any suggestions welcomed, thinking of popping up to the auto electricians with it.

On Sciroccos with halogen headlights of that era VW implemented the DRL legislation on the cheap and used the headlights as DRLs meaning the headlights don't switch off and the "auto" function is redundant. A bit of coding with VCDS can make them operate as they should.

I can't comment on why the sidelights are not working.

Sounds as if the previous owner has replaced the interior bulbs with LEDs.
