HI all,
I have just bought a 2010 Scirroco gt 2l tsi 100k miles. After getting it home i noticed that the engine was missfiring so i took it to the garage to get fixed and they changed a injector they said it was stuck open and has damaged the camshaft also the VVT was stuck so they replaced that at the cost of £800 Parts and Labour. They also said that there were rounded off bolts in the intake mani and the timing casing resulting in a oil leak and the engine needs a complete strip to repair and rectify faults caused by previous owner. I took the car home and drove it around 5 miles and it is now lumpy on idle, so i took it back to the garage and they say its £700 per cam and another 6h labour or so too repair the bolts and put in new cams. they said there is scoring around where the VVT sits on the cams and this is creating problems for the VVT to engage correctly resulting in the lumpy idle. Does all this sound legit as i dont now much about cars? Also how much are new cams and is there a option i could get cheaper cams like ebay or used? The garage suggested selling it on but i dont want to do that for obvious reasons.
Many Thanks in advance.

Re: New Cams
legit, could not tell you. Feel your pain. keep throwing cash at the car and it wont be the love story it should be. I'm about 160k kms into my adventure, the car has been cared for. regular short services.
A used replacement engine is also an unknown, so may not be a better option. can you afford to fix it and plan to keep it? you'll find a few on here with very good knowledge, it can take some time to get answers.
