Intermittent start fault

Post by paulrow83 »

Hi. I've had my scirocco 3 years now and the whole time I've had it there's been an intermittent start fault. Sometimes it doesn't fire on the first crank and I have to turn the key back and try again. Can happen 2, 3, 4 times or not do it for ages. Will always start eventually though. It's a 2009 2.0 TDI. I've tried checking the glow plugs, well the ones I could get to and just had the battery checked and that's fine. Anyone else got any ideas? Thanks

It's worth scanning to see if any fault codes are stored to give you a clue. It could be any number of things including, engine coolant temp sensor or fuel pump priming / fuel pressure. As I'm sure you're aware intermittent problems like this are difficult to solve unless you can determine a pattern.
