Scirocco R owners I would like to hear from you please

Post by Fab1493 »

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and I joined because I intend to buy a Scirocco R in the next 6 to 12 months.
I first fell in love when the Scirocco R was announced all those years ago and said to myself I would one day have to get one. I then got an incredible chance to sit in one of only 2 ever Scirocco Rs registered in Portugal and it only made me fall deeper in love! Fast forward to 2014 when I was working for a VW UK main dealer and actually got to drive a Scirocco R DSG! What a machine I thought.

Anyway, back to my point. I'm not going to be looking at any particular spec/colour when making a decision to buy. My decision will be fully based on condition, age, mileage and history. Only thing I'm set on is no silver or grey cars (personal preference...).

When I do buy a Scirocco R I will be buying to keep it indefinitely and in original condition, certainly won't be swapping it any time soon if ever! I will not be using it as a daily, I'll probably use it at weekends and perhaps on some longer trips.

I would like to know from previous or current Scirocco R owners what the ownership has been like in terms of the following:
MPG (for information purposes only, whatever MPG the Scirocco gets will not put me off buying one), maintenance costs (regular service + any extra bits the car needed doing which can be seen as "serviceable" parts), reliability, any known common issues/faults, what to look for specifically when looking at one (over and above the usual used car checks), and general advice/guidance please.

Thank you very much in advance

Just dive in man, you are already sold on the car.
Mpg = 9.5l/100km . probably more. Just like G.P Willie's M6B it likes high octane fuel. 98 is good.
Maintenance cost, no idea my wife always paid at the counter. I serviced my car every 5000km for the first 60000km. Never had any issues. Let the rpm settle under 1000rpm before driving off. It was my first new car. now its at 105000km. still no problem.
Get your dream car and share the purchase with us.
The blue cars are nice. I just wish there was an option to the black interior.
Collector of warning lights.

Sorry! I just saw your reply.
I can confirm I have bought one!!! As close to brand new as possible AND with the spec I always wanted!!!
It's a candy white Scirocco R with pan roof, 19" Talladega alloys, R cloth seats (which I much prefer over the leather) and manual gearbox. 18k miles from new, one owner and full VW history.
It is virtually brand new!
