Passenger puddle light inop

Post by Foxy_787 »

Hi, new to the forum

I have a 2010 vw scirocco. I have recently changed my passenger wing mirror indicator panel and led bulbs. It was an oem kit.
After replacement all is working fine but i have noticed that the puddle light below the mirror is not working.

Drivers side works fine. I then took out the puddle light bulb to see if the bulb was faulty but the bulb works fine on the drivers side. There are 2 wires going into the bulb casing. One is a blue/black wire which goes up to the plug for the mirror indicator which i believe is an earth wire. The other wire is a green colour which i believe is the current wire. This wire goes in behind the door card and into the door control module i believe.

I plugged a fluke meter into passenger puddle light plug and read 0volts but when i done the same on the drivers side i read 12volts so passenger side is obviously getting not current. Interior lights come on also when doors open an i also cover daylight sensor to make the car think it is dark.

Any advice would be appreciated. If anyone knows of anything else i could try before i pull off the door card please comment below and maybe it could save me a lot of hassle lol

Thanks

Could be an idea to check passenger door module coding.
If it’s wrong the light will also not work.

Hi Roy thanks for the reply

I had computer on it earlier but when I looked into the coding for the passenger door electrics it said that the ambient (puddle) light is active.

So that led me to believe that the ecu has recognised that there is a puddle light there seeing as it is coming up as active.

I'm not over familiar with these diagnostic computers and coding etc. But if it comes up as active would that mean that all is okay that way or should I have done something on the computer?

Do you think the current wire behind the door card maybe at fault?

Regards

Ok that would be fine then.
If you have folding mirrors then it might be broken inside the mirror.

Well the mirrors don't fold automatically when the car gets locked but they have a manual function you can do on the mirror adjustment switch

I'll take the door card off anyways and have a look at the wiring etc

Can u think of anything else why it wouldn't be getting power?

That’s a good way too start. If you can do a fault scan on this door module.

I cleared any faults that there was but the faults never came back so I'm hoping those faults have been fixed seeing as they didn't show back up once cleared

Sorry roy i didnt take a picture or write them down, as when they cleared and were not permanent faults i thought not to worry about them

Im gona remove the door card tomorrow and trace the wire back and hopfully find a snag then repair the fault
