Steering feeling wooden/heavy

Post by Frank_94 »

Hi all,

I've recently purchased a Scirocco which I am very happy with, however i've noticed in the past few weeks that the steering feels heavier and doesn't have as much feel to it.

Tyre pressures are all good so I know its not that.

VW have said they couldn't find anything, but I am taking it back in for a knocking noise at the rear, so was wondering if any of you guys have had similar issues with your steering or as to what it could be so I can get them to have another look.

Thanks
Frank

Does your car have DCC?

If so, the steering weight varies with the settings, with the heaviest being in "sport" mode. Try the other modes to see if you can feel a difference. You could read the fault codes to see if their is an issue with the steering assist setting or function.

It could also be the strut top bearings failing.

The knocking at the rear is likely to be either a broken spring or a droplink.

No DCC in mine as its just standard GT spec with upgraded wheels, and when I took it in they did say that there were no fault codes that came up, so Ill see if they checked the strut bearings and front suspension when I take it in.

Thanks for the feedback much appreciated!

When I bought my GT Spec Scirocco back in 2011, DCC was standard fitment.

Good luck.
