Hi all,
This is my first post so go easy on me! I’ve owned my Rocco R for a year now, and in the last 4ish months I’ve noticed that as soon as I hit 90mph the engine noise (I think it’s engine noise) just sky rockets (I’ve already had the whole “don’t do 90 then” rubbish), but overtaking on the motorway is just awful. Edit: the noise is purely at 90, 85 is quiet and fine, and 95 is quiet also, making this even more irritating and increasing the head scratching.
Sometimes it’s louder, sometimes it’s quieter.
It sounds like it’s coming from the offside front but I’ve been unable to pinpoint where it’s coming from, and it’s so bad sometimes that I’ve covered my right ear with my hand it’s so irritating!
Any ideas as to what to check would be much appreciated [emoji1688]
Cheers

Re: Excessive Noise At Certain Speed
First thing I would check is tyres, in particular whether there is any uneven wear. Sciroccos, like all models that use this platform, have a tendency to have uneven tyre wear on the rear which gives a rumbling / droning type noise at certain speeds. I know you say you think it's coming from the front but the tyres could have been rotated. Some tyre brands are worse than others and it can be more pronounced on particular road surfaces. It could also be a bearing but I would expect you to notice that at a lower speed. Another thing it could be balancing or a slight buckle or deformation of the wheel / tyre but I would expect you to feel a slight vibration through the steering wheel if it's the front.
Re: Excessive Noise At Certain Speed
check that your tyres don't have a flat spot. get a garage to check them on a balancing machine.

Try to describe the noise a bit more if you can. Is it high/low pitched, whirring, scraping, squealing, knocking? Does it come with any vibrations? Is it constant at 90 or only when you accelerate or decelerate through 90? Does it only do it in one gear?

Re: Excessive Noise At Certain Speed
It’s a lower pitched noise, tends to be louder when easing off through 90, but still noise at 90 nonetheless. Possibly a small vibration too which again stops at 95ish. Constant noise too. I’ve only tried it in sixth, I’ll have to do it in fifth and see!Psycho Kirky wrote:Try to describe the noise a bit more if you can. Is it high/low pitched, whirring, scraping, squealing, knocking? It sounds like the best thing to do would be to go to an independent specialist. They might be able to do some live data logging to see if anything shows up on their scan tool when the noise happens. If they don't spot something obvious first.RookVI wrote:It’s a lower pitched noise, tends to be louder when easing off through 90, but still noise at 90 nonetheless. Re: Excessive Noise At Certain Speed
Hey all thanks for all your replies! I took it to my local performance garage who took it out for a spin and it was found to have a “well and truly f#*@ed wheel bearing”. Currently in the garage now!
Thanks all!
