My car has recently failed its MOT due to an oil leak, I've noticed it has been leaking slowly for a while (i'd top the oil up every 6 months).
I've been quoted just under £1200 to replace the rocker cover seal, timing chain tensioner, and seals or for £1100 without the new tensioner.
Replacing the timing chain tensioner has been on my mind as i've read up that it can fail, and that there's a revised part (which would give me peace of mind).
Is £1200 a reasonable price, and does the above seem like the right fix going off the photos that i've been supplied?
Bit of extra info, it's a 2.0 tsi late 2009 engine with about 113,000 on the clock.

Has someone sprayed white paint on the engine? The tensioner is a must if not completed before, they are a ticking time bomb.
It is a time consuming job to do properly so it could easily cost that much to be fair. Mostly labour time charge.

my seal went and got it replaced locally as vw was too expensive as its all labour charges but they used vw parts. £250
However not long later the crank shaft oil seal went which was £400.
They usually go one after the other due to cars mileage.
I was under the impression if the chain tensioner was at its maximum adjustment, then that was the time to change?
PS didn`t know they failed a mot for a small leak, large one I get due to possible fire/eviroment damage perhaps.

Resurrecting an old thread. 1st time in 11 years I've had to top up my oil on my 2009 2.0tsi with 78k on the clock. Leaking underneath. One drop in 24 hours. Cannot see anything visa le except maybe some oil around the filler cap which could've been spilled at previous services. Any symptoms of these problems? How easy was it to diagnose and did these fixes work? I've read could be the PCV valve too?

I changed the PCV valve on my 2009 2.0tsi and now the oil level stays constant. I have no leaks underneath. Some oil around the filler cap might be normal.
