Normal oil temp
Normal oil temp
Anyone know what the normal oil temp should be for a 2.0 petrol car?
Mine sits at about 88 degrees until I put it in sport or manual mode. It climbs up to the mid 90s then.

Sounds about right to me.
Mine goes up to 103 when I boot it or if I'm stuck in traffic(more often than not the latter).

high 90s for me. on a blast I can get up to 109.
Re: Normal oil temp
That's good to know. It freaked me out the first time it got up in the high 90s.
Time to give it a bit more curry [emoji3]

I don't even give it any beans until oil temp reaches 90. Just gives the turbo a longer life span.

I usually start pushing it when the temp is up around 70. Might see how it goes tomorrow when I let the temp sit around 90

Re: Normal oil temp
As the car has a water jacket type oil cooler, oil temps of around 90 -100 are perfectly normal. Coolant temp gauge is "corrected" to display 90 over the range 75 to 105 so it's not displaying real-time coolant temperature whereas the oil temp display is displaying real-time and thus will vary with engine load / ambient temp / airflow
My car is a diesel and the oil temp is normally mid 90s and rises to low 100s under load or making swift progress.

Long motorway journey, 31c air temp, not hooning it gave an oil temp of 116 on Monday for me

No untoward effects from that?Andy b wrote:Long motorway journey, 31c air temp, not hooning it gave an oil temp of 116 on Monday for me

Re: Normal oil temp
So at what temp would I need to be concerned that there may be an issue?
When I bought the car, it would sit at high 80 - low 90. As soon as did an oil change it's at low to mid 80s. So my rational is that is normal temp because it has fresh oil & when it goes up during normal driving, time for oil change

Re: Normal oil temp
90-93°C normal driving. When pushing will go up to just 102°C or so. (+-30°C out)
Highest I've seen it was 106 or something last year (+30*C out)

Re: Normal oil temp
My 220HP sits at around 104 most of the time, my previous 210HP was typically 95.
I keep below 3000rpm until the oil is 90 or over.

Re: Normal oil temp
My temps were reaching 115 normal driving (Revo stage 3) before installing an engine oil cooler from HEL Performance. It now sits at 90-100 usually +/- a few degrees.
When booting it or on track I will ease off and let the temps cool down when around 125 degrees is shown on the screen. Even with Millers Nanodrive 5W40 and regular oil changes and strict driving steadily until operating temp is reached (and to cool), it isnt worth over heating or potentially damaging internals to not slow down for a while.

Re: Normal oil temp
I have always kept a close eye on my oil temps on my R. Even on hot days like we have been seeing recently I rarely see the oil temp go above 90-92 degs. Winter time I am lucky to see it go above 85 degs and that is giving it a hard long drive!
