Buying my 1st scirocco
Buying my 1st scirocco
Hi folks
I'm looking to buy my 1st scirocco, actually my 1st vw. I'm unsure on which petrol engine to go for. I've got 10k to spend and do roughly 3000 miles a year. Power isn't that important to me would rather have reliability as I currently drive a Vauxhall. I also drive a 120bhp diesel focus and find the power delivery on that is good enough for what I need. I've been researching a bit on the 1.4 but all I'm reading is piston horror stories. Any advice To help me make a decision would be grateful.
Thanks
Mark

Re: Buying my 1st scirocco
2.0 TSI would be the best choice based on your budget and useage.
Re: Buying my 1st scirocco
Cheers i take it the 2.0 is a more reliable engine. Mostly diesels in the north east of Scotland which is a pain. Closest 2.0 on auto trader is Peterborough lol

Mine is now for sale, its a 2011 2.0 tsi, black panoramic sunroof, stage 1 Revo remap, limited slip diff and Golf R front brakes, 90,000 miles, 2 owners including me for the last 4 plus years, good condition, recent new front Pirelli tyres, always well maintained, asking for £8995 with the diff/big brakes or £8600 without. I am in South Yorks. I have just taken the photos and it will be going on both Pistonheads and Ebay this weekend
Re: Buying my 1st scirocco

Re: Buying my 1st scirocco
Personally. I wouldn't touch a 1.4 twincharger of that era with a barge pole, unless it has a comprehensive warranty and even then I still don't think I would. The risk just isn't worth it in my opinion. Don't get me wrong it's a brilliant engine but it has a habit of emptying the owners pocket.Darroch84 wrote:https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified ... archad=New

This one also caught my eye it's the 122bhp.

Re: Buying my 1st scirocco
I agree with the above that the 2.0 sounds like the best option for you.
What I would say, as someone who has and is currently experiencing failures with my vehicle, is if you're after reliability please do some research into common faults beforehand so you can make a decision as to whether this is the car for you and if you feel it is you can check if the common failures have been rectified in the car you consider purchasing, so at least you can be prepared.
The two major faults I've encountered within the last two years have been the p2015 Intake Manifold Flap Motor and the TPI 2024969/2 Clutch Release Bearing. Both of these problems are very well known and each will cost in excess of a thousand pounds to have fixed.
The car is visually beautiful and lovely to drive, however I am extremely disappointed in the reliability and am seriously questioning whether I'll ever purchase a VW again. I just can't afford to pay £1200 every 2 years to fix a faulty part that's nothing to do with wear and tear.
I hope this helps and at least if you find a car you like you can ask if the vehicle has had these problems and you find that the Clutch Release Bearing has already been sorted, you'll know you don't have to worry about that going as the part was updated. I have however heard that some people have the Intake Manifold issue re-occur as that part was not updated.
