DSG service - main dealer??

Post by Parsx »

Planning ahead to my next service -80k so it will be a dsg service as well.

Question is should this only be done at a main dealer or can it be trusted to a decent indie?

Can't imagine it's too difficult a task and any warranty/ good will from vw should anything break is well out the window due to age and mods.

Cheers.

VW dealers are very competitive on price for the DSG with the majority honouring the fixed price of £179.

It's not a hard job but does require connection to VCDS as the oik level is set at a specific oil temp. In addition, the adaption parameters are reset. One of the reasons why the DSG feels different after a DSG service but it soon adapts back to your driving style.

You pays your money you takes your chance.

Cheers cuprabob.

£179 isn't too bad for it and with the VCDS connection requirement etc the main dealer is probably where I will go.

Not due for another 8k miles but that will fly in.

I believed that the DSG oil changes had to be done by VW dealers only, as the tool used to open the oil chamber is patented and not sold by VW.. I have no evidence of this and I was told this by a mechanic at halfords auto centre. Not sure if it's true

Any garage can do it really. as long as they know what they are doing. but for 179, theres no reason not to take it to VW as long as they do it properly

You don't even have to go under the car. With stuff like a BG PXT you can change the oil from the top side. It measures how much oil comes out and how much have to go in.
Also flushing before changing the oil is possible.

Thanks for all the replies, definitely not a job I would think of taking on myself.

Reckon I will be going to VW for it, 179 is a decent price and it's a good stamp to get in the book should I sell on at any point.
