Need help on this Scirocco GT TDI 170

Post by portraitofcurcelli »

HI, looking for a 2.0 diesel scirocco and found this one:

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... 9/usedcars" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Spoke to the owner and he says he isn't sure it has had a cambelt change (it blatantly hasn't) also he has kept no documents ever for the car but says it's only missing one service in it's life but runs great.

Also say he had front end replaced on insurance a couple weeks ago because of a knock but also has no paperwork at all.

On the phone he sounds a nice and genuine guy and the car is very well specced up and looks good but have to take these things into consideration.

Any little things I should know on these? And what am I looking at for a cambelt and waterpump change?

Would appreciate opinions on this and what you think price wise, thanks

I had my cambelt, tensioner and waterpump replaced at my dealer recently for £399.

Check that the DSG has had the oil and filter changed at 40k miles if it is DSG. Advert says automatic and manual. That could be down to a batch of 170 Sciroccos being incorrectly recorded as automatics when imported. This means that when you enter the reg no that references the DVLA database it comes back as an automatic. The V5 also says it's an automatic but the CO2 value and taxation is correct for a manual car. It means you need to put the information into insurance websites manually and not select the car from the reg no.

You say it's pretty well specced up but the only options I can see are the sunroof and parking sensors.

Also, it around the mileage that the discs and pads will need done. Mine is on 61k and I've just done them.

Overpriced for the low spec, miles and lack of history

The dealers are punting better spec cars with lower miles for around 10k

Keep looking, theres masses of them out there

Thanks for the heads up chaps, I pulled out.

Does anyone now what the different levels mean? Like CR GT etc?

CR - Common Rail, which is the type of diesel engine. All Diesel Sciroccos are CR.

GT - is the trim level, which adds the 18" Interlagos wheels, RCD510 headunit, tinted rear glass and a couple of other things. The 170 diesel doesn't come in a trim level lower than the GT.

All the levels are as follows;
Base - 140 diesel
GT 140 / 170 diesel
R-Line 177/184 diesel
GTS - 177/184 diesel
R - no diesel option

More recently there is also a Black Edition but I'm not fully upto speed with the facelift models and what trim the 150 diesel is available in.

Check Roccopedia for the details
