MPG 2.0 150ps

Post by Davidpeebles »

Have just changed my 2011 2.0 140 scirocco to 65 plate 2.0 150ps and I'm wondering about the mpg?

Previous motorway trips I was averaging 55mpg however have just returned from a round trip (Glasgow - Alton Towers) and have only just achieved 49.5mpg

I'm really disappointed with this as vw claim the new one should be up to 67 when the older was only up to 62, very annoying!

Anyway the car is only 1 year old with 3300k on the clock and I'm wondering if I can expect the mpg to improve?

What's others achieving?

Starting to regret changing tbh and considering changing it to a gtd after only owning for 1 week!

3300k - 3.3 million miles on the clock, really :-)

It's barely run in and economy will improve as the miles go on. Also remember that ambient temperatures have dropped which can impact the economy.

haha hopefully the engine just needs run in.

Would be helpful if any other members with the same engine could post what they are averaging?

Thanks

Don't be so hasty. If you're doing lots of miles then obviously a diesel would give you better miles per gallon but even they drop their figures when the ambient temperature gets colder. Of course manufacturer's published figures are based on lab conditions and real life driving may not achieve theoretical values. I would think yours will improve when its got a few more miles under the belt.

49.5 mpg? Heaven - I'm lucky to get 28!

I think he has the 150PS diesel as opposed to the 150PS petrol. If I'm wrong and he has the petrol then the figures are amazing:-)

Ah my mistake - he said 150PS then GTD so just assumed petrol

Sorry it is the diesel when I said gtd I meant I'm considering changing to golf gtd.

I'm just disappointed that the newer engine should produce more mpg than the old one but does not seem to be the case.

Had the old one at 60mpg sometimes when taking it easy and by the looks of it there's no chance of that in this one.

Suspension and steering response in new model is so shit too. Can tell vw have stripped it back to save pennies. Wish I researched it more before changing.

Wheels and tyres have a big part to play in this too. I normally run on 19s (VW Motorsport multi spokes from the accessory catalog) but recently took them off to clean them properly, fix a few stone chips and get them sealed with a ceramic sealant so I had to put a set of standard 17s on (Donningtons I believe) for a week or two. My mpg went from 48-50 on the 19s to 55-56 on the 17s. Both are running the standard tyre sizes.

The 19s are 235/35R19 with Vredestein Ultrac Vorti tyres all round.
The 17s are 235/45R17 with Pirelli rear and Continental front.

I've the 140 TDi with a DSG box.
