New Scirocco R owner

Post by kirby564 »

Hi all,

At the weekend I bought my first Scirocco. After reading this forum for a bit and knowing what to look out for, I went for one in Viper Green.

First impressions and experience has been great and I'm looking forward to doing many more miles in it.

There are a couple of issues I've had though. Firstly the sat nav isn't picking up any satellites so it's lost. I guess this is an easy fix at a dealership.

Second problem though is that it seems to hit an imaginary rev limiter at 5000 rpm in 3rd and 4th gear. This happens in all gearbox modes and in manual. Does anyone have any idea what this could be at all?

Many thanks

Can answer the sat nav one, more than likely the 'shark-fin' aerial has failed. I had one go on mine. Assume car has a warranty with dealer so you should not be out of pocket.

Enjoy the car.

Welcome - glad you're enjoying it! Is it a 'used' car, then? If so, what age and mileage, and do you know if the previous owner had similar issues with the rev limiter? I wonder why it's getting up as high as 5,000rpm anyway - maybe the system is just intervening to protect the engine.

Thanks for the replies. It's a used 2010 model with 32k on the clock. It was bought from a dealer so there's not really any way of finding out whether the issue was there before. It's a strange one too because under less harsh acceleration it will go over 5000rpm. The catalytic converter warning light flashes too at the same time if that makes a difference or is related?

Actually sounds like a coilpack breaking down at higher revs. Can you feel a stutter / hesitation / misfire?

Just get it back to the dealer and have them fix it.
