New Gearbox needed!!

Post by JoshH19 »

Recently bought a Scirocco having been told it needed a new clutch, only to be told by the mechanic that a new gearbox was needed as well. Has anyone had any gearbox issues / knows a good supplier etc?! I've heard getting a Reconditioned gearbox is my best bet?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Cheers!

What size of engine do you have and what gearbox code do you have cause I have just recently replaced my gearbox on my scirocco 1.4tsi 122bhp as it someone managed to shred a bearing and fuck the hole gearbox n I was lucky enough to find a brand new one from Manchester for £1000 just curious to see if it was what happened to mine as vw didn't want anything to do with it cause it was 5 years old but only done 32k miles vw are a fucking joke, any ways getting a new car or Thursday and it's never going to be a vw again haha lost faith in them

A spring broke on my clutch and that shredded the gearbox casing forcing a replacement. Fortunately I still had warranty and VW replaced the gearbox, clutch & flywheel without hesitation. If the car has full VW service history then you may get some goodwill from VW Customer Services, but a 2nd hand one will probably still be cheaper.

Lots of scirocco's being broken on ebay.

Get in touch with them and see what sort of prices you can get.

I got it from a garage in Manchester but wasn't the same code as the one that was on my car but it fits and works fine there was 4 codes that could fit my engine not sure if it's the same for the 2 litres

Just had gearbox problems. Started to get a noise that disappeared when the clutch was disengaged. Not the clutch or thrust bearing. Found the input drive shaft bearings worn and requires gearbox dismantling to replace them. Mechanic says not seen this sort of problem under 100,000 miles!! Only done 55k. Also had the intake manifold sensor on the GTI fail that VW (UK) refused to acknowledge was a common problem but was recognised in the USA as one!! Had both cars from new so know they have not been mistreated. VW (UK) are the pits. No more VWs for me
