Retrofitting Bluetooth RNS510

Post by FoxL »

I know there's a lot of information on here for retrofitting and I've been using the guide which is excellent and made it very simple to follow. I've only so far plugged everything in so no VCDS/VAGCOM and I get this screen when I press phone. I definitely need to get it coded? Or is there something I need to do, couldn't find it on my phone. Sorry if this has been asked before but I haven't seen it when looking up all info about Bluetooth before I purchased module and wires.

You do know that Bluetooth isn't one of the features of the RNS510 don't you? Bluetooth is fitted to the car, and the RNS510 interfaces with it, so unless you had Bluetooth fitted before then you still won't have Bluetooth now.

But you'll need the RNS510 unit coding anyway for it to work properly.

So you're telling me that even though I've got the Bluetooth module and all the wires plugged in no matter what it won't work?

No, what I said was Bluetooth isn't part of the RNS510, it's a separate module. You didn't say you'd also fitted a Bluetooth module, so if you have then you're part way there. It'll need coding so that the RNS510 knows that there's a Bluetooth kit, the Bluetooth knows there's an RNS510, and the car will need to know that there's an RNS510 and a Bluetooth module. Until then it's unlikely you'll get them to talk to each other.

I was gonna say, because when I pressed phone before it muted but now it goes into this screen. Just checking because I have read that sometimes it works without the coding. I am getting it coded very soon hopefully.

Without theBluetooth, the phone button just mutes the head units audio. Once coded it should be possible to connect and pair your phone, but as to how I couldn't say. I've never used a VW Bluetooth module as I use a Fiscon kit.

Mine's the same, if you go onto your actual phone and scan for bluetooth devices it should pick up the RNS 510, mine is called "VW Phone", after the first time it just automatically connects on startup.

You need VCDS to enable bluetooth in the CAN Gateway
