Fallen out of love, then back in love
Hi all, thought I'd just share with you all my story of my nightmare car.. I've owned it about 18 months ( 2010 1.4 TSI 160) and had nothing but problems.. Timing chain tensioner.. broken... Super Charger clutch and water pump.. broken.. Clock spring.. Broken.. Boot.. Broken.. Dipped Beam lights had been butchered by a previous owners for the sake of some awful HID bulbs.. more cost to replace.. anyway I'm sure you get the idea.. So after all of this I took a trip to Audi and ended up looking at new A3's.. after a lot of thought I put a deposit down.. However, walking back to the scirocco I got quite sad thinking I'd be parting ways with it haha! Audi ended up messing me around for ages.. so I told them to shove there car and give me the deposit back. So i've now fallen in love with it again, and just a custom Cat back exhaust put on, with a tiny back box.. so its LOUD! (its not Clio with a Coke can loud though) ill try and get some video up this evening for you all to hear, it sounds awesome and the crackle is wicked! so yeah.. back in love with the roc, so over the next few months Ive got some awesome things planned for it

Well glad you kept your roc!
The 1.4 tsi 160 can be a pain - but once sorted out it is a good engine with plenty of torque...and great fuel efficiency considering its a 160HP petrol.
I'm betting that it wasn't actually your chain tensioner that was failing, but the camshaft adjuster (and they more than likely replaced both) - common failure on pre 2011 models, they stick and make a loud noise for a few seconds on startup.
With your water pump / supercharger clutch, was that a coolant leak or a loud squeak/chirp on acceleration?

yeah you're right! but yeah they replaced it all, and luckily I know a few people that work at VW so it was done on good will! and I'm not too sure, the car went into limp mode and that was it really.. but I do love it, and im getting it mapped up to the 190 bhp area.. so not so sure about fuel economy then haha!
