Rally legend Walter Röhrl will be re-united with a 1986 Audi Sport Quattro S1 Pikes Peak rally car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July.
The flame-belching machine that Röhrl will pilot up the famous Goodwood hill course is powered by a 600bhp 2.1-litre 5-cylinder engine. With ‘the greatest rally driver of all time’ at the wheel, we are looking forward to a spectacular show!
In his heyday as an Audi factory driver, Röhrl drove both rally and racing cars which have since achieved legendary status. These include the Audi quattro A2 which he drove to victory in the 1984 Monte Carlo Rally, and Röhrl was the only person to win a WRC event – the 1985 San Remo Rally – in the final generation Audi Sport quattro S1.
On the Audi Sport quattro S1’s very last outing at Pikes Peak, Röhrl smashed all records to become the first person to climb the 6,500ft course in under 11 minutes.
Audi is the featured marque at Goodwood this year, and the company says it plans a ‘mouth-watering car fest’ for enthusiasts.
