RNS-510 Maps problem
RNS-510 Maps problem
So I installed the RNS-510 a while back. Recently it has started going mad and not picking up the position of the car at all, telling me I'm miles away from where I actually am - therefore making the satnav useless. As I installed this myself, I am not sure if I could leave it into the dealers to be sorted or not.. Has anyone here experienced a problem like this or know of any resolutions i can try to resolve my problem? Thanks, Niall

Re: RNS-510 Maps problem
Sounds like a problem with the small Nav aerial. As they are quite cheap,(see ebay), I'd probably pick up another and see if that cures it first ?
Out of interest, how many satellites does the unit say its tracking ?

Where did you fit the GPS aerial?
If you fitted it behind the unit it could have fallen further into the car so a loss of signal?

How do you check how many satellites it is running?Sootchucker wrote:Sounds like a problem with the small Nav aerial. As they are quite cheap,(see ebay), I'd probably pick up another and see if that cures it first ?

To be honest I just put the aerial in behind the unit somewhere.. wasn't too sure where to put it and it worked grand when I installed it

It could have moved then? You need to stick it just under the air vents above the unit if possible.niall wrote:carlpea wrote:Where did you fit the GPS aerial?

Then how does the RNS slide in to position, does that not block it?

Re: RNS-510 Maps problem
I've just found out that it's actually an area BEHIND the air vents:
Shaun wrote:Its quite easy on the Rocco, you just unclip the front panel, unscrew the 4 torx bolts, and the unit slides out, remove the quadblock connector from the old unit and the aerial leads, then you need to place the new Fakra Gps antenna in a space above the two vents, these pop out if you tug hard enough (there is two screws holding the vents in too if you look under it), then its popping the GPS aerial on, then the radio aerial on and then quadblock, push the RNS back in and bolt it back up then clip front panel on.JohnFol wrote:I'll be doing the upgrade at the weekend so I'd be interested in any other tips

Oh thats great, I'll do that tomorrow and hopefully all will be working perfectly then. Thanks a million.
Re: RNS-510 Maps problem
Just be careful with the air vents as they are a nightmare to remove!
Re: RNS-510 Maps problem
Careful? - be lucky more like - never got mine out despite huge effort...
A much simpler solution is to mount it above the manual holder in the glovebox - there is a hole between the centre console radio recess and the area above the glovebox for the wire - works perfectly in my car!

Re: RNS-510 Maps problem
Anyone know how to see how many satellites the unit is tracking?

Press the map button twice to display the split screen (if it's not already shown), then in the drop down list on the split screen, select GPS Viewer. That will tell you how many satellites the unit is currenty tracking.

Re: RNS-510 Maps problem
Am I right in saying that the RNS510 should be able to come up through the MFD unit? Ie tell me what road I'm on and the direction I'm travelling in?? Thanks

Re: RNS-510 Maps problem
Yep, it should be on the MFD if its been coded correctly.
You should find navigation and audio menus as you move left to right..
