Radio Code

Post by niall »

So finally I have found the right car for me (very hard in Ireland, all such low spec). I am going to view it tomorrow and will more than likely be putting a deposit on it.

I bought a RNS-510 unit a while ago for buttons! Installed it into a friends Scirocco as I knew I wouldn't be getting mine for a while. Now I'm going to be taking it back but he says he hasn't got the radio code, its no where in the user manuals etc. He is the second owner of the car. Anyone know if its possible to retrieve the radio code?

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Niall

They don't hand out the radio codes with the cars these days as it's not needed as long as the unit is fitted back into the original car.

If you have the serial number of the unit and VIN number of the original car it wss fitted to you can get the code from a dealer. I've heard some dealers charging £20 for the pleasure, others nothing.

Oh so it might be a direct replacement to but the original unit back in? That would be dead handy alright!!

The unit is paired with the car so if power is removed, on power up it compares the code stored in the unit with that stored in the car. If they match it will powef up. If they don't it will request the code fod the unit.

So how did you install it in the first place?

Sorry typed that wrong. I got the RNS with the radio code, and still have th code for that. It's his original code that I am trying to source - or as i have now been told, don't need..

So long as the car has the ability to 'remember' more than one code....
