Use A/C as it has a dehumidifier. You will notice A/C is automatically switched on when you push the windscreen clear button

With the amount of rain in some parts recently, the Scirocco may have damp carpets which won't help. It may need some help to dry the car interior out as shown on page 1 which works well for me. Been free of mositure in the mornings so far for the last month of so, so not yet needed to put the two units back into the car. When it does mist at the moment, as above use the window defrost to get dry air onto the screen and then runn the A/C for a while. It doesn't need heated air to work.

Ever since i have owned the scirocco i have had misting trouble, everytime it rains (and even if i get in the car dry) the car mists up as i start up and drive away, its as if the moisture is getting onto the heater matrix and when you switch the heating hot or cold it mists up straight away.
A few years ago i owned a corsa and that was equally as bad.

Surely the 140 and 170 TDI cars have the electric pre-heater installed like I had on my old Golf V's. It activates when AC is switched on and gets warm air coming through the vents in less than two minutes....... ?

Your mixing up A/C with Climate Control. A/C is all about cooling and dehumidifying and nothing to do with heat. My 170 doesn't have an electric preheater that I'm aware of.

Its easy enough to check if the heater is fitted by looking at the engine bay fusebox with its cover off.

I am not mixing up anything. Climatic, Climatronic, whatever you want to call it are all A/C systems that alter the relative humidity of the air in the car and can cool and dry it. The difference with 'Climate control' is that it has a more sophisticated automated control system but the essentials in terms of physics are the same!

As I said my old TDI 140 (Climatronic system) had an electric pre-heater fitted in the system which rapidly allowed the system to provide heat and was activated by selecting A/C on (at that time ensuring the ECON button was off!).

This is my first winter as a Rocco owner but I find the rear window far more of a problem. I don't think you'll get a quick instant solution in any car but I've driven thirty minutes plus and the rear window is still steamed up.

Hope you have the 'Recirc' to OFF. Also helps to have the windows clean with no dirt film on the inside (Be careful wiping across the HRW elements and rear side window aerials on the glass. Wipe along with a soft duster in the direction of the elements and don't press hard.)

Good point re cleaning... I do agree VW rear window heater elements just don't seem as good/quick as they used to..

I have a 2010 140TDI and yes it mists badly.
Don't think it is a VW thing as my previous car was a 2007 1.9TDI Jetta - brilliant demist.

Probably a design thing - but still a great car.

The heated screen is patented by Ford so I doubt the new car will come with one.
Well i had heated screen in my 56 reg passat tdi. So i cant see a reason why it shouldnt come in newer cars unless they had a lawsuit.

It was amazing!! Full demist/defroat in under 60 seconds. As in clear window. One thing i miss about that car.

Other vehicles may have them - but those manufacturers have to pay ford a licence fee for every one they fit.

I have never had a problem until a few weeks before Xmas - came back to the car mid afternoon after leaving it parked outside - the screen was completely misted inside and took eight minutes to clear!

Later on I realised what had contributed to the problem - my car wash bucket with wet mit and drying towel had been left in the boot!

My TDI 170 has an auxiliary heater which warms up almost instantly. Warm air out of the vents within 30secs

Think this is standard on the TDI's?
