Exterior heated mirror issue !

Post by Skollers »

I have a 2.0gt tdi 2009, my issue is with the heated mirrors, n/s works fine but the o/s doesn't work ?

I have checked for a 12v feed on the mirror end & there is nothing, are there separate fuses for the exterior mirrors, not sure what fuses are for this feature because there is no card to tell me which 1 is which ?

I have looked on the net & vag cars suffer with the main switch playing up, could this be the issue ?

Sorry for all the questions lol to take the switch out of the door, do you need to take the door panel off ?

Thanks in advance.

Regards, Colin.

There are no separate fuses for the heated mirrors. The 12 volt supply comes from the Door Controllers. The supply for driver's and passenger's side controllers is all on one fuse in the side dash, fuse 12, 10 amps. So given the other side is OK, its not the fuse.

The wiring doesn't flex as its all inside the door, so its not likely to have snapped. However the mirror is connected to the door controller, so has its connector fallen off or separated. I assume not, as you would mention the mirror adjustment not working whose control passes through the same connection as does the mirror folding. If these work, then the connector is still in place.

So that leaves the door controller or the adjuster contact has gone faulty. If adjuster, then its a door card off. Its locked into captive slots so the securing lugs won't let it through the hole.

One thought that comes to mind. Have you measured the mirror heater element resistance across the mirror contacts? Resistance or open circuit?

It could be that with the mirror being outside, the circuit is designed not to supply 12 volts above a certain resistance, ie. open cicuit. The assumption is that it has been broken and a spark in certain accident conditions may ignite the fuel.

Well finally looked into my heated mirror issue, looks like my heated mirror element is fault so gonna buy a new 1 tomorrow, tested a feed with the mirror disconnected then swapped em over to check & yes the heated element is faulty, result simple fix.
