Blown Bulb

Post by arlurt »

I've had an intermittent bulb fault on the O/S/F side light for a couple of days and only got round to fitting a new bulb at the weekend.

The amber warning light in the rev counter has gone off but the "Vehicle Status" MFD display is still telling me to check the the Front Right Side Light. I've used VCDS to clear the fault logs, side light was listed on Central Elictrics as intermittent, and now it says there are no faults but the MFD Vehicle Status display still says to check the side light.

(...obviously, the lights are all working...)

Any tips guys?

Thanks...

Off side right sidelamp position is sensitive to electrical load in the Central Electrics. Try another bulb of reputable make, different manufacturer, preferably a VW spare from the dealer.

Leave it overnight with lights in the off position. See if that clears it.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try another bulb.

The one I took out was one of these blue coloured bulbs, white light. The one I've fitted looks the same.

They're not LEDs or anything fancy like that.

I looked back through your posts so I assumed it was bulbs. As said, but use a decent one which is why I wrote "dealer's".

It needs a correct electrical load to settle back down, so the warning goes. Overnight is 12 hours "OFF" at least.

The car was an ex-demonstrator when I bought it at three months old. I was surprised to find a blue bulb fitted, though the light from it was white. Is that sort of bulb a normal fitment these days? Thought you had to have a backwards baseball cap to have those sorts of lights...

The blue is to make the emitted light as "whiter" light. You'll also find the effect on halogen headlamp bulbs in the form of blue rings around the encasement or all blue.

Sidelight Blue bulbs are standard factory fit.

I fitted the Philps headlamps above. The factory are plain.
