Plastic bump on top of dashboard

Post by ABN1C »

Sorry for the daft question but I've been wondering what the little plastic bump is that is on the top of the dashboard right down at the base of the window?

I'll check for you tonight on the parts system but I think I read somewhere that it was a light sensor.

The Manual would be a good place to check!

That's probably where I saw it first time round, but it's quicker to just type "dash" on the parts system than to search through the book again, if only the provided the Manual's in PDF forms - life would be so much simpler - print the page you need when going outside to the car to carry out work etc.

I wondered that myself. It may be where a sensor is housed but I don't know if it's airbag or climate control. The reason for my suggestions; on my mk5 Gti there was a knobly bit on top of the dash which when I was dismantling to fit an Ipod kit and unplugged it had an airbag fault light come on and had to be reset by the dealer( didn't tell them I had the dash to bits!) Or possibly climate sensor cos the "knobly bit" on the Golf was only present with climate.
Or it might just be holding the windsreen on LOL :hyper:
Rising Blue,DSG,Vienna Leather,Winter Pack,Pano roof,Folding mirrors,Dynaudio/DAB,Park Sensors,Cruise, Flat tyre indicator,Prem Mats+Sills,Metal Pedals,Gt Badge,Fiscon,Covered cup holder/rear cup holders.Now gone Piano Black with new Climate Control

The light and rain sensors are in the rear view mirror if you look at the windscreen from the outside they are clearly visible :)

As I previously thought, it is a light sensor - the part is called "sun sensor"

FYI the part for the sensor itself costs around £25 to replace and the black cover is a couple of quid.

When I first got my car it wasn't aligned properly but with a little push in the corner by the dealer fixed it

Your close, the GPS for the Sat Nav sits under it *(if retro fitted) - factory fitted then its part of the antenna on the roof.
