Where do people mount their iPhone?

Post by Ian_Mac »

I'm considering turning to the dark side and purchasing an iPhone 4. I'm not bothered about using it for music in the car as I have a USB memory stick connected which does the job.

I want to use the iPhone in conjunction with my pocketgpsworld subscription to spot speed cameras as the RNS doessn't have this function. As such I want the phone mounted fairly high on the dash board so I can easily see the warning, similar to a sat nav location.

I've looked at the Broadit options, the one that clips into the side if the head unit will be too low down. The other higher mounted one seems to cover one of the air vents which I'm not too keen on.

I guess the other option would be to use one of their windscreen sucker mounts then attach the custom iPhone holder to it.

Any other suggestions out there?

possibly too low down?? http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... tom#p52111" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
avoids the tell tale sucker mark on the windscreen though & if it will bong at you then does it really need to be directly in your line of sight

Yeah that's a bit too low down for me, as well as the `bong` you also have a nice flashy red screen which helps if the radio is up a little too loud

Is it the pocketgpsworld app you use on your iphone Trevor? If so how do you find it, i use there locations on my tomtom go 550 and find the information far more accurate than the manufactures database.
Do you find the audio warning loud enough on the iphone with it mounted at the side of the radio?

I'm using the Cams Ahoy app with the speed cam database licensed from scdb.info (24,000 cams+ in Europe), nice little app too, info found here http://camsahoy.com/index.html.
Candy White 1.4 TSI 160 - DSG, ACC, 18" Interlagos (Euro Premium&Sport packs), Alu Door Sills, Current VCDS Mods Needle Sweep, Cornering Fog Lights, Alarm Chirp, Emergency Break Warning, Dension Gateway 5, sort of..

Thanks Trevor, I look forward to the pics.
Luckily I managed to get myself a lifetime subscription to pocketgpsworld by reporting a few cameras which had been recovered in the Somerset area.

Hi micki, just a couple of pics of the iphone on the Brodit holder ,the brodit holder has the pass through conector and it is the adjustable one so you can leave your case or cover on the Iphone,it is powered by the Griffin Powerjolt its a mini plug with two usb sockets keeps the Iphone charged when running a Nav program.
I also have the free downloads from PGPSWorld and have had for several years and I was a beta tester for the CamarAlert so i know it is a good App.

Well, I finally got round to getting the iPhone 4, had my number ported across on Wednesday so happy days. Downloaded the pocketgpsworld app and have to say I really disappointed with it, the audio alert is next to useless even with the volume on full.

I was testing it in the works van with the phone in the windscreen mount in front of me and without the radio on. Not a patch on the TomTom alerts using the same database.

There doesn't seem to be any urgency to the camera alert, no distinctive noise just some woman mumbling under her breath.

Looks like I could be back to the drawing board on this one.

I purchased the brodit kit a few days ago, received it today and just spent 5 mins installing it. Really easy to install even for me who is terrible with DIY ...

I think it looks amazing and it's well worth the money
