MFD display and steering wheel control issues

Post by Sarah »

Hi!

Im a newbie to this forum!
Ive had a look around but I cant seem to find anything regarding the issues im having so I am hoping someone on here will be able to offer advice!

I have an ex-demo scirocco that I bought last decemeber and I took my car in to repair the directional air-vent controls as the buttons were sticking, this was repaired by the garage under warranty and they work perfectly now, I thought that would be the last of it. However since this was done I am now unable to use the controls on my steering wheel and the MFD display now doesnt show music or SatNav... The first thing I noticed when I took the car back after the repair was that the colours on my head unit had all changed it used to be just black and white but now I have red and orange and all sorts... (the MFD display has always been the red version)

I have now had my car in the garage 3 times since, its currently there now for two weeks :( After a week they still havent found out why its not working, they keep telling me that they have never seen anything like this before but I think this is just them fobbing me off a bit!...

Last time I took it in they said that they think the head unit and steering wheel were once changed in the car however they dont know why, and they would need to speak to the dealer I bought it from to find this out (this is the first I have heard of this, I havent changed it myself!)

As I said, a month later, its now back in the garage.

I called this morning to get an update and they have informed my that they have tried multiple times to re-code the unit but its failed to get the controls and MFD working again, and they have now informed me that they have replaced the Head Unit and Dash. The only thing they havent replaced is the steering wheel.

I am confused as to why this isnt working as it was working before I took it in to get buttons repaired, to me it would seem that since the head unit display changed, ie satnav and and music displays changing colour from black/white, that it was a software thing? Or should they be replacing the steering wheel??

I seem to be going round in circles with them, I am a complete amateur when it comes to car electrics so I am finding myself just having to accept what they say they are doing however I am getting to the point now where I am getting frustrated with it, esspecially as my roc is sat in a garage and im stuck with a hire car!

Hope this all makes sense...If any one can give me any idea on what this is all about, or anything I can go back to the garage with I would be really grateful!

thanks
Sarah

Hi Sarah,

Just reading your post regarding the above, did you manage to get this sorted out as yet..??

I am really excited I pick up my new Vinnie the Viper ROC tomorrow between 2-3pm, been waiting since December, long story..lol lol

I seen that your Viper is virtually the same specification to mine all bar the engines, my option being the diesel as I do a lot of miles to and fro work. Do you have any pictures..??

I will post mine when I get a chance.

Chat soon,

Stevie.

Hi Stevie,

sorry I have only just seen this post!

I havent managed to get it sorted no :( its been a long process and the situation is just getting worse. such a shame cos besides this problem I absolutley adore the car!!

Viper Green is definetly the best option ;) I must admit I am spending a fair amount on petrol, I probably do about 25,000+ miles a year! maybe I should of looked at diesels!

I will post some pics up soon! :)
