Low tyre pressure indicator

Post by lugano »

Hi all, just joined today. Got a question relating to the subject title. Should there be any form of indication on the dash board to let you know if you were loosing tyre pressure during driving? My car is a bmt 2lt gt 2011 spec. Any replies appreciated. :)

Yep a light will come on the dash if a tyre drops below the preset threshold. The threshold is set manually so if you're unsure if it has been set by the dealer it is worth stopping off and pumping all the tyres up to the recommended PSI then setting the TPMS by holding the button down. It will only light up then if any of the typres drop a few PSI below this (not sure of the exact figure). It has saved me once, managed to pump the tyre back up enough to get me to a local tyre shop for a repair without damaging the wheel.

Will get an orange symbol come up that looks like a deflated tyre in cross section with an exclamation mark in the middle.

As I understand it if you have 18" alloys then yes. The reset button should be in the glovebox and the light should light in the dash for couple of secs when you put the ignition on.

If you have 19" alloys then you don't have the tyre pressure monitor,

I may be wrong though but mine certainly doesn't have it and it's a MY12 with 19" alloys

So i take it mine will be same as yours as mine are also 19". I havent checked in the glove box yet but i'll find out tomorrow. Also if thats the case then theres no way of getting any pre warning inside the car that a tyre is loosing pressure?

I think yours has it because it's an R, whereas mine is just a GT. I've checked and I definitely don't have it and remember reading in the sales brochure that if you ordered 19" alloys as an option on the GT you lose the TPMS.

MY2011 (introduced at week 22 of 2010
Flat tyre indicator fitted as standard on cars with 17" and 18" wheels
http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/roccop ... of_2011.29" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

yours must have had it added to the order Jon (or the 19's been retrofitted)

Could always retrofit it with no push switch and be fully functional via VCDS if you have VCDS (Link). Its always there in the Controller 03 ABS Brakes.

Or if you want the push switch. Link

Checked in the glove box, dont see any reset button apart from airbag on/off dial & air con dial or something along the lines.

so based as per the above that you have 19" wheels & your car is not an R thats correct. if you want it then Rw1's link above is an option if you are technically minded

Mine is a MY12 with 19" alloys but no TPMS...so yes must also get it retrofitted at some stage..but why don't 19's come with TPMs? :mad:

Seems daft that you buy a car like this & it dont come cheap & if you end up with the 19" then its not included & it ends up being an additional cost to the buyer.
