iOS5

Post by Kev »

It's out. :)

But I'm going to wait until the weekend to download it.

The servers are being hammered tonight.
Every man and his dog is trying to get iOS5, there are loads of apps with iOS5 updates out tonight, there's an apple TV update out and a couple of new apps to take advantage of the new iCloud features. Find My Friends looks particularly useful.

But it's all swamping the servers and plenty seem to be getting duff downloads and timeouts.

Some nice looking stuff in it though.
A new notification centre, news stand, free messaging between iOS devices, wireless syncing, nice new reminder system and iCloud.

I've just done my iPad 2, couple of minor issues but nothing major. Looks remarkably similar to the old version. Safari gets Tabs now which may be of benefit, haven't decided on that one yet.

Hopefully my 4S will turn up tomorrow to prolong the fun and games. For anyone using Facebook on iPad a dedicated iPad app was also launched today. One word of warning is that it has every push notification enabled which may cause a few red faces when the message from 'Sandra' pops up saying how much she's looking forward to the weekend. :hide:

Bricked my iPhone when I tried to upgrade last night. Best advice was wait till it quietens down and try again. Loads of peeps on the web last night looking for or posting info on upgrade problems. Could see that vacant appointment slots with Apple Geniuses were disappearing as you watched them.
Got it sorted first thing this morning and all OK now.
