Alloy Wheels

Post by alaska1977 »

I've a lease agreement directly with VW. I note that their policy regarding scraped rims on alloys is that if its over 50% of the circumference of the wheel then I am liable for the repairs/replacement. I believe they also force you to undertake all repairs/servicing at VW approved garages - is this true? I am debating getting the alloy rims repaired by a non VW approved garage before I hand the car back (well over a year still to run). How good are the repairs in general and if I got a decent job done would VW spot it and potentially charge me more? This is the first lease car I have had so not sure how flexible they are.

Appreciate some advice - Thanks

I had my wheel repaired by a local mobile repair company which cost £40.00 and you cannot tell it was damaged at all, as for servicing I believe companies are no longer allowed to tie you into one manufacturer dealer, so as long as you get the book stamped by a vat registered garage you should be ok.....

VW would just use a smart repair company for the wheel, no different to you and I can source. Never had a wheel repair of my own but I know plenty of people who have and you can't usually tell. With regards to servicing, within the warranty period you don't have to use VW but you do have to use VW parts unless your happy to sacrifice the remainder of the warranty. You can still get your local independent garage to do the service but ask them to qoute using genuine VW parts. Kwik fit for example can do this but I don't think there is a lot of difference between there prices and VW.

Can anyone recommend a good wheel refurbisher in the Maidstone / Kent area who won't charge a stupid price?

These guys are used by Lexus - maybe not the cheapest or quickest but excellent service and results.
