Vibration from engine bay

It may be coincidental, but since getting my DSG problem sorted out, I've noticed from time to time a loud resonance in the car. Having checked everything inside, figured it must be coming from the engine bay.
Took the car round to a mate's with view to putting it up on his ramp in case it was something underneath, but after poking and prodding a few things the noise sounds like it's coming from the common rail unit and most likely the injectors. According to my mate, injector 2 is vibrating more than the others - after he stethoscoped the area and then he felt the vibrations between no. 2 and the others were different. I couldn't really tell to be honest, but then that's why he can pull his car to bits and replaced compressors and what not and I open the bonnet and top up fluids!
When the car was in for a service advised dealer of the problem and of course "no fault found, that's normal". Hmm, definately not normal what I'm hearing.
I've managed to pin it down in the past week as it only happens when the engine is warmed up, but not at full dual carriageway running speed - something with oil temp in the 80s. Revs between 1000 and 1800, disappears after 2,000rpm but that may be due to general engine noise masking it rather than disappearing.
Going to get back onto the dealers and demonstrate the problem, but does anyone with a little (ok, a lot) more technical know-how have any ideas if a faulty injector would cause a loud and rapid clicking/ticking noise? Or are we looking at something else - I'd rather have a better idea of what the probable cause is than give the dealer carte-blanche to tear the engine apart.
