Insurance

Does anyone know of a well priced insurance company? I have bought a Scirocco 2.0 TSI GT 210, cheapest quote so far is esure at £795. However, if I was to get it remapped by Revo looking at £1300, which is too much money really.

perhaps try skyinsurance who sponsor us..
otherwise go round the usual comparison sites & then the big players that aren't on them but remapping will reduce your options of insurers who will give you sensible prices.

I pay more than £795 for mine, and it hasn't been remapped, but does have some additional body parts and alloys.

Only been driving a couple of years though. Sky quoted me £3k. Nice one.

Everyone's circumstances are different - trying everyone you can is all you can do to ensure you get the best deal.

You're more likely to get a fairer deal if you have a lot of NCD, but remapping the car almost always adds a disproportionate premium on your annual policy e.g remapped 140TDI to 170 will cost significantly more than to insure a stock 170, remapped 2.0TSI will cost significantly more to insure than an R...etc

Cheers for the reply. I phoned sky insurance quoted me £1400 with the discount! Oh well £795 it is then and I'll have to dream of a remap!

I was under the impression that it's impossible to test if a car has been remapped unless you put it on a rolling road? Is this not the case or just not the case for the Scirocco? I've never heard of anyone having insurance issues with a remapped car.

Insurers can find out that a car has been remapped if they really need to even if all that is left of the car is the ECU or one of number of other control modules.

Not declaring a remap or any other modification only saves you money if you never do anything such as make a claim that would warrant your insurer investigating. Now if your never going to claim why bother with fully comp insurance anyway...

It is VERY possible to ascertain if the ECU on a vehicle has been modified.

In the event that you are (god forbid) involved in a fatal road accident the vehicle will be FULLY examined. If the vehicle is found to have undeclared modifications the insurance company can, and do, void the cover. If that happens you are / were deemed to have been driving an uninsured vehicle. That being the case you would be liable for any costs, private or otherwise - potentially costing you your house, savings etc etc etc.

Worth taking the risk to save a bit of cash on your premium????
