By what I've found out so far, DRLs aren't so bad on the Xenon equipped cars.

If you've got Xenons then you've got real DRLs.

But if you've got normal Halogen headlights then you don't get real DRLs, you just get the headlights turned on all the time.

I'm sure you are! Me too, the DRLs on the xenon cars are cool. Apparently the rear lights and number plate lights come on with the cars with standard lights, so they don't really have dedicated DRLs, so that being the case i think i'd have them turned off. I'm leaving mine on though otherwise we have a pair of spot lights on the front that don't do anything, plus i like the look of them.

Really can't see what the problem is with them. WIth DRL's becoming lawful in a couple of years anyway, don't understand the fuss....

you turn the ignition on then off, then hold the left hand stalk (the indicator and flashers one) hold it so you flash the lights and indicate left (or right cant remember) then turn the ignition on for 3 seconds (dont turn the car over) then this will either activate or de-activate the DRL lights depending on if you hold it left or right

The handbook says that the procedure to turn DRLs off using this method must be carried out by the qualified service guy. As a good lad, I asked them to do it for me, and it didn't work for them either. He tried again with me stood next to him, and showed me all the options on VAG-COM, nothing there to turn them off either. They then got into eMails to and from VW UK and Germany, and the lights are still on.

Dead easy to turn off with VAG-COM, infact i had mine turned off and had the fog lights acting as DRL's instead for a while, then put it back to factory.

Andy-GTI i am sure you even posted a pic somewhere of the VAG-COM screen as it said Scandanavian running lights and had a tick not long after you collected your car

This all sounds very hopeful for those of us that would like the DRLs switching off.

I look forward to hearing how you get on, and to being able to go the same way myself.

Customer Service haven't replied to either my letter, or my online question regarding deactivation. If they do I'll post on here.

Yep, now sorted. And they can be switched back on if required.
