AM reception

Post by SteveGT »

Have tried to listen to Radio 5 in my car since new and at best I think the term is patchy (!!) I have just accepted that, but last week I was in a basic new Astra which had much better reception, so wondered what the forum's experience is?

Been ok for me on the occasions I've listened to 909 / 693. :)

I had the same problem with my 06 MK5 Golf 2.0 TDI GT but because it was my first ever new VW I thought it was maybe model (radio) related. I loved the car and put up with the dodgy reception. I learned where to switch from 693 to 909 on my 12 mile commute so that I could hear the fantastically grumpy Peter Allen p off various politicians.

Later that year I bought my wife a Hyundai Getz shopping/granny does the school run/takes her Mum to hospital car and the very conventional radio had perfect AM reception! Now there are 2 reasons why I kept this to myself. Firstly that I'd bought a Korean engineering master piece and secondly that I am old enough to listen to AM radio.

Chungster now to the polnt. I think the RCD 510 in my 2010 Scirocco is actually worse than the Golf!

The Hyundai has a roof mounted floppy aerial and VW use integeral window aerials. Could be this be the only thing making the difference in reception?
