Drag start

Post by J-Jonez86 »

Hey

I'm off to Shakespeare county raceway in a couple of months time and I'm wondering whats the best way to launch the scirocco and wondered if anyone else had tried it?
I'll be up against a pretty mixed group of mates cars including a 400bhp r32 gtr (don't expect to win that one!), 290bhp Fiat Coupe 20vt (hopefully that'll just break down), Mini Cooper S, Audi A4 1.8t and a Mazda Mx5.

I'm going to run the box in manual shift and the ACC in sport, and probably turn the traction control off (although may try it on to start with as the VW one doesnt seem to bog the car down too much)
I've seen the videos on youtube of the dodgy launch control thing people do with the DSGs, which doesn't sound too good for the car.

I was thinking hold the car on the brakes with my left foot and then when the light goes green lift and feed the power in pretty rapdidly with the right, trying to minimise wheel spin in the low gears.

So yeah anyone got any advice? Don't want to get beaten by the cars with less power than me haha :p

Use launch control, it's the fastest way to get the car down the strip, it's in the manual how to set it up.

Warm tyres will help. Surprising the difference it makes when you really get some heat into them. But probably not the easiest thing to do, and depends how far your gonna go just to get that fraction of time quicker.
