What MPG to Expect?

Post by Joloke »

When we picked up our Scirocco today we were initially disapointed to see just 20mpg displayed on the MFD
Remember this is a diesel

Anyway Our Rocco is a 2.0 140 TDI with a DSG
after about 30 miles it had gone up to mid 30,s mpg

By the time we arrived home taking in some stop start traffic 30-40mph,some faster A roads at around 50-60mph and a dual carraigeway at 70mph we were returning 48mpg :D

Im guessing you would say we did a Combined Cycle?

As the Combined Cycle for the 140 TDI is around 50mpg im guessing 48mpg aint too bad?

Just curious on others thoughts? we have only covered 120 miles in the car today will our mpg improve?

What should we expect?

i know its said that the mpg on a diesel improves as the milage increases

Were going to my parents up norf soon so hopefully constant motorway crusing speeds for 200 miles without stopping so hoping for better economy still ;)

Interested in anybody with Same Spec car whats your mpg?
If your mpg improved how many miles were on the clock before improvements took place?

Jodie :)

When you get in reset and drive normal. I get around 32MPG in a 2.0TSI. It would usually be around 31.3MPG, but lately I've been "economically breaking" Also found 3rd is awesome for cruising in traffic jams and seems to use less fuel than 2nd.

I suppose 48mpg aint bad then?

Guess i will have to learn how to use the paddles so i can select and hold gears ;)

Just interested to know if the economy is likely to get better and if so at what milage? Also if our initial mpg is about right for a TDI that aint been run in yet?

Enjoying it eitherway and its more economical than our golf was without a doubt

@Joloke You need to get 1-2000 miles on the clock before the engine starts to loosen up. By then you should be be getting better mpg and performance. Its all a bit tight when new.

Thank You :D

at least i know now ;)

Even though its not loosened up yet im still getting much better Economy than my Old 1.6 Golf

should have 1000 on it at least by the new year and once im used to it i doubt it will take long before its at 2000 ;)

Maybe i should hire a test track and drive around it non stop until i get to 2000?

Only thing is i think ill run out of diesel first   :faint: :fall: :p

My average over the last 9,814 miles ( yes I am sad and just checked) is 48.6 according to the DIS at an average speed of 49Mph.

I spend my life on motorways!

i wouldn't worry about MPG until there is a a few k on the clock. I tend to get ~40MPG, sometimes higher, sometimes lower. Depends on the weight of my right foot ;)

Economical breaking.....taking it to a northern area where they break your car for free overnight!

Or economical braking......not leaving it to last minute stamping on brakes but braking lightly and gently earlier so u don't lose as much speed when traffic clears so don't need as much acceleration to get back up to speed

I think

I appreciate that to get the best mpg, you need to have completely run in the engine, but for a car with just 250 miles on the clock we worked it out and at the moment we are getting 44 mpg out of a 2.0 tdi 140.

I had a 140 TDI Diesel Roc for a year and I expected to reach 47 mpg minimum on long journeys with motorways. For town driving that figure came down to about 37 with all the stopping and starting. On my R however; I get 20 around town and about 32 on long journeys.

So it looks like you are getting exactly what you need from it. The Mpg will go up after you do 1000 miles as well, cause the car has been broken in.
