Faulty alloy wheels

Post by fimael »

Has anyone else had problems with faulty alloy wheels? I've got a problem with one...the dealer's replacing it under warranty. I asked if the same would apply if I had problems with the other 3. They said VW will not replace alloys that have been damaged by the owner (I reversed into a kerb when the car was new and damaged the passenger side alloys)....has anyone else come across this?...and is it right? I previously owned a Toyota Celica that had the same problem with faulty alloys and they were replaced no matter what the owner damage was.

I would imagine it would depend what the fault was...if it is clearly due to driver damage, i.e. the lacquer is peeling off around that area, then there would be no reason to believe that it would be placed under warranty.

My wife had 4 replaced by Audi on an Allroad, they refused so I wrote to Milton Keynes and said as my wifes car it mainly carried the kids - needless to say all 4 were replaced. Being my wifes car with the split rims that stuck out all 4 were damaged. The issue was corrosion in undamaged area of the wheel.

The alloy that's faulty has no damage caused by my fabulous parking (!!!!!)..the lacquer's bubbling. Apparently it's a common problem with Eos and Passats but they've not seen many Roc's with the problem. Just a bit concerned that if the same thing happens on one of the wheels I've damaged (not near the area of the alloy I've damaged), it won't be replaced under warranty depite VW acknowledging there's been a problem with one of my other alloys.

I think that would be more of a case of arguing the toss that the kerbing didn't cause the lacquer to peel, i.e if it was on the opposit side of the wheel it is unlikely assuming that the peeling hasn't started from the position of the kerbed bit and worked its way across. Might be a good idea to add some touch up lacquer around the kerbed bit to protect it a bit,

Thanks, will do that asap. It's snowing here in the North East so the Roc may well be going into hibernation for a while.
