Wheel removal and security splined nut?

Post by golfgtdude »

I was looking at the wheel on my Scirocco today and noticed that there's some black caps/covers over the wheel nuts. They look like they need a special splined socket tool to extract them. Does this come supplied with the car - only looked briefly in the boot and can only see the wheel locking nut attachement.

There just plastic nut covers, in the boot should be a little bit of metal with a loop on one and and hood on the other, the hook end fits in the hole on the covers and you pull them off to reveal the proper bolts

in the polystyrene filler of the spare wheel you will find....
a jack
a locking wheel nut removal tool
a tow eye
a screwdriver (handle end helps remove loosened locking wheel nuts i believe)
& ... a metal locking wheel nut cover puller! it looks like a metal ring with a hook coming out from it

okay cheers for the info, makes sense now and i saw that tool in the boot. Didn't realise they were caps (doah on my part). I guess they are meant as a deterant (worked on me - hehe)

cheers again.

Not meant as a deterrent as far as I'm aware, just to make the bolts look better

And it worked on me too  But I soon sussed it out :D

I also sussed out that my Scirocco does not have a security nut on each wheel. I'll need to get that sorted soon I guess.

I also just purchased a new set of wheel nut covers, because my current ones a stained white. I could have sprayed them I suppose, but it's only cost me a tenner for the replacements...
