what is the stock front lighting setup on sciroccos?

Post by 3t3p »

VW rang me few days ago saying my car is going to be BUILT in 2 wks, so bout 10 days from now

I never opted for 'front fogs'.

Are these the small round lights below the main lamps? My current polo has em and they only come on when I go to fog mode, not during normal night time driving.

Isn't purely an aesthetic thing? They're about £210 ish? Now I'm objectively looking at cars I drive past to see if they have em and if it adds/subtracts anything from the look.

If anything they cause slightly more drag:)

In short, should I add em and go through changing my PCP or leave it be and go for the 'clean' loook? That's if I can even add em at this stage...

Cheers all:)

Front Fogs work on the Scirocco work the same as your Polo.

They will turn on when you put them on - or you can change the configuration so they turn on to indicate the direction you are turning - or so they flash when the main beams do.

Some people like them on the Scirocco but other say that they perfer the cleaner look (In fact I know some people who have removed them and put on a bumper that doesn't have them!)

It's down to personal preference, and I don't think you will miss them if you don't use them now...

In saying that - can you change the order that close to Build week? If you can it may effect your build date..

i very very very much doubt you will be able to add them to your order at this very late stage before build without affecting the build week and delaying it.

i'm in the camp that the front looks better without the fogs & having had front fogs on my previous car they caused me more anguish than assistance from people being blinded when I did have to use them (the particular car couldn't have the rear fogs on without the fronts) and them not aiding my my vision.

I was under the impression the fog lights being on in normal night time driving (fog-less) was an offence. It's a few years ago now but after driving through London, having driven through fog in Watford about half an hour beforehand and had them on, I was stopped by the Polis and told to turn them off.

I prefer the look of the car with them but hardly ever have the need to use them now the 'Fog on the Tyne' happens less nowadays :hyper:

I had front fogs on my previous car but didnt opt for them this time as i never found use for them previously. i dont think the look suffers with or without them to be honest.

i also heard its an offence to have fog lights on when visibility is above 100 meters (i could have pulled that from thin air mind) and you can get can on the spot fine. one of my pet hates is people driving with fogs on when there is no mist let alone fog, usually boy racers.

I seem to remember back in the day on of my pals had a Renault 5 GT Turbo and he had a passion for driving round with the front fogs on which also happened to be yellow. He was always getting stopped by the plod and eventually got to the point where he received a £30 ticket.
The plod's argument always seemed to centre round where he'd actually switch the fogs on manually ie by pulling the knob out or whether they came on with other lights from the factory. Maybe as having fogs come on with main beam is a factory option you'd get away with it. Not that you'd be regularly driving round the streets with main beam on either.

yeh I think it will be fine then without and yeh I doubt I could change it without delay at this point and I don't want that!

Maybe I can cover the plastic parts in 3M Carbon Di-noc? That would be alright on PCP I should think? Wonder how tricky it would be to apply to that area...

My previous car they turned on when I put main beams or, if the wipers were on auto and it started to really pee down so the wipers went into over drive. Never been stopped for it, but then I wouldn't drive around a town with them on - country roads where there are no street lights then maybe.

The better question is why....

Yeah sorry didn't mean to sound off, I just don't understand faux carbon thats all :P

if you do want to mod those bits around the Fog Lights, I know some people have turned the plastic grill bit into a gloss plastic (black) which looks far better imo than stock - and won't fade. Looks good on Candy and Vipers as well.

It's an offence to use foglights - front or rear - when it's not foggy. The low, wide beam pattern is designed to provide wide illumination close to the ground and will dazzle other drivers when used in clear conditions. It's a non-endorsable fixed penalty of £30.

Foglights should be switched separately to headlights.

Only driving lamps - which have a different beam pattern to foglights - should be configured to illuminate in conjunction with the main beams.
