Rev limiter

Post by robson »

Just dug the several inches of snow off my car as its been standing for over a week and ran the engine to warm it up.
However it would not rev over 2500rpm at standstill (no intention of driving it on the road till snow disappears).
Rang the dealer who said this could be normal and car would need to be driven. Anyone had this or is it a trip to the dealers.

My car also displays this behaviour, I believe it to be normal, to protect the engine.

It is normal, limiter is removed when you switch of Traction Control (Hold down the ESP button for 3 seconds). I dont drive it any other way!

yup dunno why but it does this.... on petrol cars it revs to a max of 4000rpm out of gear or with clutch in.
this feature turns off if you turn traction control off.

As most other people have said, it's probably to protect the engine.

Interesting, was trying the launch control procedure as noted in Roccopedia and noticed wouldn't rev too high but this was with ESP off.
Didn't seem to be any diff bewteen this and holding on brake whilst reving and letting brake go..........

Launch control limits RPM to 3000 and reduces the torque to prevent destroying the Dsg.

Yes tried it and revs all the way with traction switched off. I rang the dealer who said it probably had a fault.
Amazing how little they know about their own cars!!!
